The Ministry of Economy supports a plan to double the semiconductor industry in Mexico.

La Secretaría de Economía apoya un plan para aumentar al doble la industria de semiconductores en México.

The plan aims to double both exports and employment in the semiconductor industry in Mexico, as well as attract Design, Assembly, Packaging and Validation (ATP) operations worth more than 10 billion dollars.

Currently, this sector in Mexico generates approximately 4.9 billion dollars in annual exports and employs about 10,000 people.

Carlos Rebellón, coordinator of the Forum, explained that the master plan is made up of public policies, cooperation initiatives, investments and developments in order to double investment, consumption and national content in the sector. This effort seeks to position Mexico among the most advanced economies.

In addition, Rebellón highlighted that the plan includes the integration of Mexico into the semiconductor value chain in the areas of design, assembly, packaging, testing and downstream processes, thus complementing the operations carried out in the United States. During the meeting, the collaboration between the Forum and Semiconductor Alliance Mexico, an organization that trains more than 7,000 teachers in semiconductor topics, was also announced.

Secretary Ebrard highlighted that an advanced semiconductor industry is crucial for Mexico to reach the desired high levels of development, stating that “this is decisive” and that success together with the United States is essential to achieve it.

For his part, the Undersecretary of Foreign Trade, Luis Rosendo Gutiérrez, urged to take advantage of the historic opportunity provided by nearshoring and pledged to work to increase the content of national inputs in the semiconductor sector.
