In the first quarter of 2024, the export of new automobiles through the port of Altamira saw an annual increase of 80%. This figure reflects significant growth compared to previous years, as indicated by the local National Port System Administration (Asipona). During this period, a total of 5.3 million tons were mobilized, highlighting the facilities and advanced infrastructure of the port as key benefits for customers, allowing for the fulfillment of various logistical needs.
Vehicle movement reached 136,426 units, representing an 80% increase compared to the previous year, consolidating the port of Altamira as a vital point for international trade, strengthening commercial relations with various regions of the world.
Additionally, container handling remains one of the highlights of the port in the Gulf of Mexico. Thanks to the modernization of terminals and specialized equipment, 1.7 million tons of containerized cargo and 1.8 million tons of general bulk cargo were mobilized, underscoring its importance as a premier logistics center.
Regarding bulk and liquids, private companies offered comprehensive solutions for various industrial sectors, including energy, chemicals, and agriculture. On one hand, their ability to handle large quantities of bulk products has been highlighted, with the mobilization of over 703,290 tons of minerals and 316,958 tons of agricultural products.
As for petrochemical fluids, efficient and safe attention was provided, significantly contributing to the development of key sectors of the Mexican economy. This resulted in a total of 836,743 tons mobilized by the end of March.
The Asipona explained that its commitment to continuous improvement and the adoption of more efficient practices has stimulated greater competitiveness in the national port sector, thus promoting the modernization and optimization of processes in other ports of the country.
Active collaboration with key industry players and government authorities was also highlighted to drive port development initiatives at the national level. This has enabled the promotion of logistics integration and facilitated the flow of goods more efficiently and securely across the country, with a record of 665 vessels received and over 215,138 TEUs handled as of March.
