During the first three months of this year, a total of 440 vessels arrived at the port of Manzanillo, located in the state of Colima, carrying a variety of products destined for commercialization.
The Administration of the National Port System (Asipona) announced that the Port of Manzanillo experienced an almost 18% increase in container traffic during the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year.
This increase represented a total of 958,271 TEUs (measurement units in maritime foreign trade), with 42% corresponding to imports, 41% to exports, and 17% to transshipment activities.
Regarding imports and exports in 2024, Asipona of the Port of Manzanillo reported that both aspects recorded an annual growth of 19.2% during this period.
The total volume of commercial cargo, excluding petroleum products, increased by almost 9%, reaching 7,656,000 tons; while, considering petroleum products, the figure rose to 8,324,000 tons, representing a 7.3% increase compared to last year.
Specifically, the volume in tons of containerized cargo increased by almost 15%, while the movement of agricultural bulk grew by over 30%.
During the first three months of the year, Manzanillo received a total of 440 vessels, of which 65% carried container cargo, 50 carried petroleum products, 37 were loaded with mineral products, 12 with agricultural bulk, and the rest with general loose cargo.
Additionally, eight cruise ships docked at the port of Colima with over 20,000 passengers on board, representing a 50% increase compared to the same period in the year 2023.
